A Full-Service Downsize to 1-Level Living

CP had lived in her home for 40 years, and the stairs were becoming a problem. Even with rails on both sides, they were tricky to navigate. There wasn't a room on the first floor that was a logical first-floor bedroom, so she decided to move to 1-level living. We had been assisting her for years in her efforts to make her house work, but the time had come. A floor plan from her new apartment was the starting point. As her trusted real estate advisors, we obtained the floor plan, and helped her decide what would fit in each space. Then we helped her and her out-of-town son hire a Move Manager to move the items and set up the new apartment. Move Managers are wonderful: they not only move the items from one home to the next, they will set up everything in its place, right down to the pictures on the walls, the hairbrush on the dresser, and the toothpaste in its place. The resident simply leaves their old home in the morning, and walks into the new apartment completely set up in the afternoon!

Working closely with her and her long-distance son, we then arranged for the remaining possessions that she did not take to be sold, donated and discarded as appropriate. Our painter gave the interior a fresh coat of paint, our electrician updated a few lights, and our cleaners put a shine on everything. Some freshening up in the landscaping, staging, and we were ready for market. Our professional photographers came in for the photo shoot and to prepare a floor plan, and we used those to advertise and present the house in the MLS and in marketing campaigns. We received a great offer after only one weekend on the market, and the house settled in just under 30 days. CP and her son were ecstatic! For her, while she had not wanted to move, she accomplished it with very little disruption, with her possessions set up for her in the new place, and with the rest of the process fully handled.
